SMT is partnering with THE PLAYERS to enrich the spectator experience with its signature production services for scoreboards and video displays across TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course. This year marks the continuation of a long partnership between SMT and the PGA Tour, during which SMT has provided video displays and content production since 2001. THE PLAYERS is taking place March 12-17 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
This year, SMT’s updated Monsterboard 3.0 production returns to THE PLAYERS. SMT’s LED video boards are the largest used in golf. Two displays frame the 17th hole “Island Green:” One measures 21-by-63-ft. on the tee box and another 18-by 52 ft. display is at the green. The 18th hole includes an 18-by-73-ft. display showcasing live video and up-close views of all shots on the hole using SMT-operated and robotic cameras.
The redesigned 4K Monsterboard 3.0 displays enhanced statistics and a scoreboard with a series of uniquely styled info graphics showcasing live tournament data, player historical performance, and cutting-edge ShotLink+ related content created by SMT Creative Studio.
Also new for 2019 is a 9-by-34-ft. display on the practice range. This display combines real-time tracking of players and 3D modeling of shot traces for players hitting on the tee.
Returning this year are SMT’s custom Information Towers that provide real-time scoring and directional information throughout the course.
SMT continues to provide multiple social media displays in fan village locations. The Social Media Walls keep the estimated 200,000 fans connected to their favorite players via Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook updates displayed on 9-by-18-ft. video walls in the Sawgrass Square and Grove locations, giving fans the chance to grab a bite and beverage without missing the action.
SMT once again is playing a large part in the exclusive PLAYERS Club hospitality areas. The PLAYERS Club TV production provides club members with SMT’s curated live broadcast that features the live leaderboard; enhanced player statistics and information; greenside camera feeds from featured holes, PGA TOUR Live, the Golf Channel and NBC; and PLAYERS Club content. Members can watch the world’s top golfers compete on the large televisions throughout the clubhouse, and, when ready to watch live, can consult one of SMT’s interactive kiosks for real-time scoring information such as position in the field, daily score, total score, and on-course player location.
“At SMT, we strive to cultivate a unique fan experience for THE PLAYERS through our exclusive video productions,” says Ryan McDonald, Director, Business Development, SMT. “Whether on the course or in THE PLAYERS Club hospitality areas, fans tuning into our video displays can easily follow their favorite players from tee to green to the final putt without missing a single shot.”
