Durham-based SMT teams up with Spike TV for live CES coverage
Durham, N.C. — Gadget lovers who can’t make it to Las Vegas for the annual Consumer Electronics Show can tune in for live multi-media coverage that tracks the latest trends, topics and hottest products thanks to technology from Durham-based SportsMedia Technology.
Spike TV is launching live coverage of the CES at 1 p.m. EST on Tuesday. Five hours of coverage is planned. (Get details here.)
The Spike team will use SMT technology in two ways:
Through a huge 65-inch touch screen display, which SMT calls GOTO (short for Giant On-Air Talent Operated) Board
And SMT’s DMX Switchboard (or Data Matrix Switchboard), which gathers and collates data from numerous social media sources for presentation on GOTO.
SMT technology has been used by professional sports leagues and Black Entertainment Television to offer more in-depth broadcasts and also to incorporate data from fans and viewers. SMT offers polls and encourages viewer questions as well as tracking what’s been said in social media.
“SMT continues to break new ground with our customized interactive social media platform designed for Spike,” said Don Tupper, vice president of business development at SMT, about the CES effort. “For those fans who thrive on the latest in technology, we can extend the entertainment experience by driving them to their second screens as they watch live coverage, enabling them to connect with the hosts and celebrities at CES.”
Specific features for the CES broadcast include:
• What’s Spiking –Which exhibitors are getting the greatest “social media buzz.”
• CES Chatter –Tracking tweets and Facebook posts.
• Tech Track –News feed via RSS of Spike TV and Gizmodo blogs.
• Live Poll – Graphic summary of viewers’ responses to reporters’ questions.
• Top 5 – “Best 5 Moments of CES,” as chosen by Spike’s talent.
SMT, Spike TV Partner to Live-Stream Social Media at CES
DURHAM, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SMT (SportsMEDIA Technology Corporation) and Spike TV will convert social media enthusiasts to CES tradeshow participants on January 10 during a five-hour kickoff of Spike TV’s “CES All Access Live.” The 2012 Consumer Electronics Show, known as the Super Bowl of technology, runs January 10-13 in Las Vegas, NV.
Viewers can actively participate in tradeshow coverage by posting on Twitter and Facebook, which Spike TV hosts will monitor via SMT’s GOTO (Giant On-Air Talent Operated) Board®, responding to viewers’ comments in real-time. Fans are encouraged to ask questions, participate in opinion polls, share thoughts on newly announced products, comment on the topic being discussed in real-time or propose a change of topic.
Spike TV hosts can operate the 65-inch GOTO Board as a touch screen or remotely with an SMT configured wireless tablet.
